Keeping account and people owners in step in Salesloft
In Salesloft, an account and each of its people have their own owner, so a territory change on the account doesn't move its people. To keep them matched, reassign people when their account changes owner, while leaving deliberate exceptions alone.
- Decide which way it flows: account to people, people to account, or both
- If your CRM also writes owners, choose one system as the source
- Leave exceptions alone, and keep a list of every change
Why owners drift
A territory change moves the account. Its people stay with the old owner, so their tasks, cadence steps and reports go to the wrong rep. The reverse happens too: a rep takes over the main contact, and the account doesn't follow.
Three ways to fix it
- Bulk reassign from an export and an import after each territory change. Reliable if someone remembers, every time. See bulk updating from a CSV.
- Set it in your CRM, if your CRM sync writes owners to Salesloft. Then make the change there, not in Salesloft, or the two will undo each other.
- Match automatically: watch for owner changes and pass them on.
Doing it safely
- No loops. A change you made shouldn't trigger another one back.
- Check before writing. Read the record again just before changing it, in case someone moved it meanwhile.
- Leave odd cases alone: a deactivated rep, no owner at all, or a record that has already changed twice today.
- Keep a list of every change and every reason for not making one.
Pulsar Automate has Owner matching: an account's new owner goes to its people, a person's new owner to their account, or both. It checks every 10 minutes, reads each record again before changing it, leaves deactivated reps and records changed twice in 24 hours alone, and lists every change. A one-off "give them their account's owner" fixes people who already differ. See Pulsar Automate
