How to connect Clay and Salesloft
There are two directions. Clay to Salesloft uses Clay's own Salesloft integration to create or update people and add them to cadences. Salesloft to Clay means sending people already in Salesloft to a Clay table, for example when they join a cadence, and writing Clay's answers back to their record.
- Clay to Salesloft: paste a Salesloft API key into Clay, then use actions such as Upsert Person and Add Person to Cadence
- Salesloft to Clay: you need something that sends the right people to your Clay table and brings the results back to the right fields
- Control which people go to Clay, so you only spend Clay credits where it matters
Direction 1: Clay rows into Salesloft
Use this when you build a list in Clay and want it in Salesloft. According to Clay's documentation:
- Create a Salesloft API key and paste it into Clay when you add a Salesloft account in the enrichment panel.
- Add a Salesloft action to your table, such as Create or Upsert Person, Create or Upsert Account, or Add Person to Cadence.
- Map first name, last name and email carefully. The cadence must already exist in Salesloft.
- For tables that should run as rows arrive, turn on Clay's auto-update.
Tip: if you're updating people who are already in Salesloft, decide how a row finds its existing record first, so you don't create duplicates. Pulsar Import can also take finished Clay rows, match them by email, domain, Salesloft ID, CRM ID or LinkedIn, preview every change and undo it later.
Direction 2: Salesloft people into Clay, and the answers back
Use this when the people are already in Salesloft, say everyone who joins an outbound cadence, and you want Clay to research them, then write the answer onto their Salesloft record.
You need three things:
- A trigger. Something that notices when the right person joins the right cadence. Salesloft has webhooks for this, which automation tools can listen to.
- A send. Each person's details posted to your Clay table's webhook address.
- A write-back. Clay's answer mapped to the right Salesloft field or note, even when Clay finishes minutes later.
Pulsar's custom field waterfalls do all three: paste your Clay table's webhook address, choose who it runs for with "Only run if" rules, and map Clay's answers to standard fields, custom fields or a note. You can also use Clay as an ordinary step in a phone or email waterfall.
Tips
- Spend Clay credits on purpose. Only send people who need it, such as those without a title or on your top-tier accounts.
- Watch the table's row limit. Clay tables have a row limit, so plan a fresh table before one fills. Pulsar warns you at 80% and when it's full.
- Check the numbers connect. If Clay finds phone numbers, compare its connect rate with your other sources, not just its hit rate.
